NRE’s Involvement in CSR

NRE defines CSR as in playing a positive role to the society. NRE aspires to strengthen Japan by serving to the local environment and local community where NRE operates its solar power generation.

1.NRE Solar School (Solar System Donation Project)

NRE plans to provide small scaled solar panels (10kW) in regional public schools where NRE owns a project.
NRE will install a solar power monitoring system in the school’s library, so students can freely expose themselves to an environment where they can learn and appreciate the mechanism and effect of solar power. In addition, NRE will offer study programs hosted by our professional staffs so the students can learn about how solar generation works as well as how the generation facilities are designed.
In the first CSR year, NRE has focused on installing solar panels in junior high schools in Aomori prefecture, and donated a 10kW solar generation system to the Shichinohe Junior High School in January 2016.

2.NRE Solar Scholarship

NRE offers scholarship to students who are interested in acquiring a degree that is related to solar power generation or renewable energy business. NRE will provide an opportunity for scholars to participate in summer internship program.
In the first CSR year, NRE offered scholarship to students in Schichinohemachi, Aomori prefecture. The winning student entered university in 2015 and will participate in an intern program at NRE in 2016. In the future, NRE is considering to offer scholarships to students living in Hyogo Prefecture, Hiroshima Prefecture, and Oita Prefecture.

3.Great Forest Wall Project

NRE supports the “Great Forest Wall Project” which is an initiative to create a “Forest that Protects Life” around the coastal area that had been affected by the Great East Japan earthquake and tsunami disaster. The project aims to build an approximately 5 meter high embankment along the northeastern coast of Japan from Aomori Prefecture to Fukushima Prefecture using a mixture of soil and debris from the disaster, and over 25,000 volunteers and local residents have planted pots of evergreen broadleaf trees that are indigenous to the area such as castanopsis, machilus, and oak. As of December 2015, over 200,000 trees have been planted in Miyagi Prefecture and Fukushima Prefecture since its launch in July 2012.

NRE has been supporting this project through a donation since 2014. NRE is also considering its employees’ participation in the tree-planting ceremony.

4.Japan Intercollegiate Skiing Games

As a special sponsor, NRE donated racing bibs for the Chichibunomiya Cup 89th Intercollegiate Skiing Games. This competition will be held for a week starting from February 24, 2016 at Hanawa ski area in Akita prefecture. University students will compete in alpine, cross-country and jumping events under the slogan “friendship, courtesy, and progression”. This competition originates from the legacy that his imperial highness prince Chichibunomiya built a world-class jumping hill in those times with the belief that “Sports will bring a healthy body and soul to our youth, which will lead to the well-being of the nation”.
NRE believes that promotion of clean energy sources that produces minimal greenhouse gas will contribute to the prevention of global warming. NRE supports the Games with the belief that its corporate activities can contribute to sustaining a world where everyone can continue to enjoy winter sports.
